The Eliton cello is different because it plays like a professional instrument. Besides the sound, the Eliton feels natural and well-made because of its craftsmanship and construction of high-quality hardwoods; an ebony fretboard and a beech or maple body. Kirill's father, a violinist, has made multiple variations of the instrument in order to obtain a result that meets his high standards. During the last six years, he incorporated ideas and recommendations from other musicians into each iteration. The latest version is a sophisticated and sparse work of art.
Kirill Miniaev demonstrated his Eliton bodiless cello at Futurallia and talked about the niche his new company has created.
Miniaev response to whether his cello is an electric instrument was "That's one of it's functions." It is also a portable folding cello and practice instrument. The portability and feel are benefits professional musicians like - especially to practice on. However, according to Miniaev, "it's probably not a performance instrument, (but) it would be better than other electric cellos."
Prices for the Eliton range from $1500 - 2,500 and are currently made to order. More information can be found at elitonmusic.com.
